DMV Agony

I finally got my license changed to Kate Decker. It only took me a year and 2 months! ha! When I went to the DMV today I remembered vividly why. They were so unfriendly! Kristin told me that she recently went down there and all she took was her marriage license and a pay stub and she changed her name and address and it was easy and they were nice. NOT the case for me. I went with my marriage license, a pay stub, my two social security cards (Kammermann and Decker) and my old license. They told me that the pay stub was probably not going to be good enough and that I should have brought a utility bill. This is ridiculous for 2 reasons: We pay our bills online so we don't even have paper utility bills sent to us and even when we did they weren't addressed to me. They were addressed to Matt! They even handed me a printed list of what was acceptable and pay stub was not on there. I wanted to be like, so you'll let my friend do this and not me?? Is it because I'm Asian and you're racist? Is it because she has big boobs? You're a woman! You shouldn't even be affected by that!

They asked if I at least had a state ID. I told them no, but I have my old license issued in this state. That seemed to satisfy her. She said that next time I'd have to bring a utility bill. I'm thinkin, "Lady, there aint gone be a next time." I'm gonna die with this name and address since it's so much stinking trouble."

So she gave me a number finally which was like my ticket saying that I was OK. When they called my number I got a different person. A young guy. I showed him my marriage license and my pay stub and he said, "Congratulations." And I could tell it wasn't about getting married. It was that rude, I couldn't care less congratulations. And I'm thinking, "Well Suzy Control Freak over here was just about to hook me up to the lie detector so excuse me for trying to cover all my bases with you." She was rude but so was he, just in a different way.

They took my picture and the guy before me kept blinking for his and they had to redo it at least 3 times while I was watching, who knows how many times before I was there. So I was definitely not thinking I was gonna get a good one, but I did! The picture is even better than the one I had and that was my main reason for not getting it changed all this time. I didn't want to get my picture taken. So overall it was pretty successful. Take that DMV! Me - 2 The World - 0.

Wal-Mart Frustration

I had a run in with a Wal-Mart lady today. I tell ya, they are getting rougher and rougher. There's already one there that I've had run ins with before and I know to steer clear of her. This wasn't even her! What has happened to customer service? What happened to friendliness and the customer is always right? Not only did she give me a hard time about not being who I said I was, she also gave me a hard time about buying 100 folders. She didn't believe me that there was no sign saying customer limit 10. (although I bet there is now.) I told her there wasn't. She said she had to check and I said, "Fine!" She came back and told me there wasn't, but it wasn't news to me. I can read.

She seemed puzzled as to why I would want 100 folders, and I wanted to say, "because I don't want anybody else to have any!" but I said, "I'm a teacher at a school where the students don't usually come with their supplies." The truth! Imagine that! I'm trying to do a good thing here! For the kids!! Plus! Since when is purchasing a lot of items from Wal-Mart a bad thing in the eyes of the employees of Wal-Mart? It's because of these folders you have a job! So why do you have a gun to my head??

As for the identity thing, I mean yes, I guess I understand that my name on my license doesn't match the name on the check I'm trying to use, but while I know you are trying to protect this "Kate Decker" whose checks I'm trying to use you are also insulting the actual Kate Decker standing right in front of you. You're calling me an identity thief. Do I look like an identity thief? You think Kate Kammermann is an identity theif? Cuz that's the Asian on the driver's license! Well let me tell you, Kate Kammermann is very insulted and since that is the same person as Kate Decker, Kate Decker is not pleased that her checks are under the lock and key of this skeptical Wal-Mart lady. I am man! I am YOU! Don't give me a hard time! I AM ME!
